Job Description

Plenoptic Cognition is building VectorField, a cooperative platform that captures every production action as immutable data and turns it into feature-film-level photo-real content production.
The Senior CG Supervisor will own the supervision of photo-real digital doubles and character animation generated through our 4-dimensional (4DV) performance-capture pipelines. You will work side-by-side with Plenoptic Cognition's Head of Pipeline, Head of ML, Principal Engineer, and the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Support 4DV Digital Double Pipeline Development: Partner with the Head of Pipeline to design, implement, and refine the end-to-end workflow (capture → cleanup → rigging → skinning → animation → rendering)
- Supervise Art & Technical Teams: Lead a crew of 4–6 artists/TDs (modelers, riggers, animators, lighting artists). Conduct daily stand-ups, set clear production milestones
- Tool Development & Integration: Work with the Head of Pipeline to define requirements and validate Maya/Houdini/Unreal plugins that automatically emit immutable work-segment metadata
- Quality Assurance: Establish measurable visual-quality KPIs (poly-count caps, texture resolution, shader complexity, render budget ≤ $0.02/frame)
- Performance & Cost Optimisation: Profile GPU/CPU utilisation on our AWS-based render farm, tune shaders and lighting setups
- Documentation & Standards: Produce and maintain living SOPs, naming conventions, and pipeline diagrams
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Coordinate with the Head of ML to ensure CG assets are compatible with downstream machine-learning pipelines
- Stakeholder Communication: Deliver concise status updates and technical demos to executives, investors, and early-partner studios
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 8+ years as a CG Supervisor on photo-real, high-end productions (feature film, TV, or AAA game)
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen (required for handling regulated production assets)
- Technical Skills: Expert in Maya, Houdini, and Unreal Engine. Strong Python/MEL scripting
- Hands-on experience with 4-dimensional performance-capture data (volumetric, multi-modal)
- Deep understanding of photoreal shading, physically-based rendering, high-resolution texture pipelines
- Advanced rigging/skin-weight techniques for digital doubles
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary art/TD teams
- Familiarity with operational-security best practices (data encryption, strict access controls)
- Education: BFA/BFA-equivalent in Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, or related field
Preferred
- Experience with cloud-native render farms (AWS Thinkbox, Deadline, or similar)
- Experience integrating CG pipelines into machine-learning workflows
